‘I would like for us not to be weird’: ‘Harry Potter’ star Daniel Radcliffe makes a plea on behalf of TV show cast
Daniel Radcliffe, ‘the boy who lived’ and found stardom playing the titular character in ‘Harry Potter’ movies for over a decade, is making a genuine plea to everyone, from fans, the media, and the whole Harry Potter crowd, to give the new TV series some breathing room. The Harry Potter TV reboot is on its way, and he's requesting everyone to stop dragging the old movie cast into every conversation. In fact, Daniel wants the new actors to have a shot at making these characters their own, without all the comparisons or constant reminders of the original films.
He added, “I would like [for us] to not be weird spectral phantoms in these children’s lives and just let them get on with it, because this is going to be a new thing. It’s going to be a different thing.”
He even joked that Dominic would probably do better than he did. “I look back now with more kindness. I was learning how to do it for a long time.” He also wrote Dominic a letter, telling him to enjoy the ride and have an even better time than Daniel did himself.
Daniel doesn’t want his own time at Hogwarts, or all that spell knowledge, to overshadow this new chapter. He’s not coming back for a cameo, and neither are Emma or Rupert. He told E! News in May 2024 that the producers want a totally fresh start. “I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else,” he said.
Daniel Radcliffe’s earnest plea
The new Harry Potter TV show is going to retell J.K. Rowling’s books over several seasons, roughly 10, from primary discussion. Speaking about it to ScreenRant, Daniel said, “When these kids got cast, there was a huge thing on the internet around the world of people being like, ‘We’ve got to look out for these kids.’ But if you really mean it when you say you want to look after these kids, then one of the things you can do is not ask about me, Emma (Watson), and Rupert (Grint) all the time.”He added, “I would like [for us] to not be weird spectral phantoms in these children’s lives and just let them get on with it, because this is going to be a new thing. It’s going to be a different thing.”
