‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ star Nathalie Baye passes away at 77
Renowned French actress Nathalie Baye, celebrated for her roles in 'Downton Abbey: A New Era' and numerous other films, has passed away at 77. Baye, a fixture in cinema since the 1970s, succumbed to complications from Lewy body dementia. Her illustrious career spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on both French and Hollywood cinema.
Nathalie Baye, a famed veteran French actress who was best known for her role in ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ among other things, has passed away. She was 77 years old at the time of her passing. Being a part of the entertainment industry since the 1970s, Baye was an iconic star of the French and Hollywood film world, and worked on countless genres of films, setting her name up for one of the most iconic actresses in the industry.

Nathalie Baye passed away after health complications

AFP reported that the veteran legend had been suffering from Lewy body dementia and passed away on April 17 after facing complications from the disease. She passed away in her home in Paris, France. Lewy Body dementia is a neurodegenerative disease. It can alter mood, movement, and even cause hallucinations in the persons diagnosed with it.

All about Nathalie Baye

Baye was born on July 6, 1948, in Mainneville, Eure, France. From the get-go, she had an artsy childhood as both of her parents, Claude Baye and Denise Coustet, were painters. She started her work in 1970, when she landed a minor role on one of the episodes of ‘Au théâtre ce soir.’ She also starred in ‘Two People’ two years later; this is one of her uncredited works. Her work a year later in ‘ Day for Night’ became another one of her breakthrough roles. Over the years, Baye had starred in over more than 8- films, and had also worked in a lot of series as well over the past few years. Some of her works include ‘Strange Affair’, ‘The Young Lieutenant’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’, ‘Every Man for Himself’, ‘The Last Woman’, and ‘The Man Who Loved Women’, among many others.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Smet, whom she had with her late French singer Johnny Hallyday. Her daughter, along with her ex-partner, was a fellow actor in the industry and had even worked with Baye before. Smet had featured together on an episode titled ‘Call My Agent!’
