Ben Affleck reveals he had food poisoning while filming ‘Armageddon’ and it made a particular scene 'better'
It was not easy for Ben Affleck to shoot the goodbye scene in the 1998 blockbuster film ‘Armageddon’. The Hollywood star has recently revealed that he had food poisoning while shooting his emotional scene with star Bruce Willis.
Recently, Ben Affleck opened up about the incident with Fox 32 Chicago. Ben recalled suffering from food poisoning during the shoot of one of the crucial scenes of the film. He recalled, “When we shot that scene, I had food poisoning,” Affleck said. “I wasn’t an experienced enough actor at that point to know that you can just pick up the phone and be like, ‘I’m too sick to work today.’ I’m like, ‘I better come in.’ So I went and I was literally, it’s the only time it’s ever happened in my life, vomiting between takes.”
Affleck added with a laugh, “They had a garbage can and I was (vomiting between takes). And it probably made the scene better.”
The scene in question saw oil man A.J. Frost, played by Affleck, says goodbye to “deep core” oil driller Harry Stamper, played by Willis, as he sacrifices himself to manually detonate a bomb to destroy an asteroid on a collision course with Earth.
Affleck also shared that filming Armageddon allowed him to work with several talented actors, including Willis, who he said was “really nice to everybody.” Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan and Will Patton also appeared in the disaster film. Liv Tyler played Affleck’s love interest Grace Stamper, who is Harry’s daughter.
Even before Ben Affleck’s reflection on the time, ‘Armageddon’ director revealed in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter that Affleck “felt like shit” while filming the movie’s iconic ending. The director shared that Affleck was suffering from the stomach flu, but was “great” in the scene regardless.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
