'Avengers: Doomsday', one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest films, has had audiences waiting patiently for the film's December release. However, even with months to go before the film can hit cinemas, an early screening of the film was reportedly held for studio bosses.
According to reports, the film has left executives “extremely pleased” with early footage and internal screenings. Variety reports that Rival studio heads even went ahead to predict that Doomsday will not only dominate the year’s box office, but could even rewrite the box office record books and score the highest-grossing film of all time.
'Doomsday' comes at a time when the MCU has been hit by a number of hits and misses since the last 'Avengers: Endgame' screened in theatres. As per the report, the film that brings Robert Downey Jr back into the MCU, this time as a villain, is expected to outperform previous record-holders and reignite the frenzy over the film's release. Industry analysts also noted that the film's hold over the audience could serve as cultural moments for fans.
This release will come at a time when the MCU has had more misses than with multiple films failing to hit the mark at the box office. 'WandaVision' became a pop culture sensation on its release, but the films and series that followed, struggled to keep up. Recent releases, including 'Thunderbolts' and 'Captain America: Brave New World' fell short of box office milestone.
Industry gurus noted that ensemble-driven Avengers films have historically served as cultural moments, drawing both casual viewers and fans worldwide. If the Russo Brothers' film delivers both critically and commercially, it could mark a turning point for the MCU, and help it regain its dominance while also setting a new benchmark .
