Ballygaunge Bratyajon started its journey in 2013 with the production Ardhangini. After six years, the theatre group is gearing up to stage its 100th show on February 29. Based on Somerset Maugham’s The Constant Wife, the play was adopted in Bengali by Utpal Jha. Acted and directed by Bijoy Mukhopadhyay, the play also features jatra icon Bani Kumar.
“It is a play that talks about women’s empowerment. We started our journey on March 13 as a tribute to International Women's Day. The play talks about how economic independence is the key to empower women,” the director said.
The play has Piyali Basu Chattopadhyay, Dyutilekha Mukherjee, Kuhu Majumder, Sulakhhana Saha, Tapashi Mukhopadhyay, Suman Singha Ray and Tarpan Kumar Ray in the pivotal roles. Over a period of six years, the play was staged at different corners of India, including Lucknow, Allahabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi and Chandigarh.
