Popular singer Riddhi Bandopadhyay recently took the initiative to organize her new endeavour ‘Nari-An Unsung Story’. The music event was graced by the presence of some of the big names of the Bengali industry such as Devajit Bandopadhyay,
Kaushik Sen, Madhabi Mukhopadhyay and others.
It was an opera style unique musical performance to remember the timeless hits of yesteryear stars like Binodini, Tinkari, Molina Devi, Ketaki Dutta and many others.
A number of singers from the bygone times didn’t get their due respect because of their origins. However they didn’t bow down; instead continued to contribute to the traditional genre of Puratoni music of Bengal. Only a few people know that most of these singers were actually from the red-light areas of that period.
Madhabi Mukhopadhyay, Kaushik Sen, Avirup Sengupta, Gulzar Hossain Ujjal from Bangladesh and others gave a fitting tribute to these almost forgotten singers with their live performances. The musical event is a tribute to these ladies who once contributed immensely to Bengali music in their own way.
