Birju Maharaj receives Living Legend award

An award ceremony was held to honour people from different walks of life at a city auditorium recently.
While Pandit Birju Maharaj was hailed as the living legend of Indian classical dance, the lifetime achievement award for literature went to Buddhadev Guha. Filmmaker Goutam Ghose and wife Nilanjana were also awarded along with actress Pallavi Chatterjee, artist Ganesh Haloi and folk singer Dipannita Acharya.
A contemporary dance recital and songs by Debanjana Karmakar of Indian Idol Junior fame, kept the audience entertained.
