Often termed as a versatile character artist, Abir Chatterjee is no doubt the most desirable man in Bengali cinema these days. The Tollywood heartthrob steals million hearts with his enigmatic persona, be it playing Byomkesh the detective or the quintessential dashing romantic hero. This romantic tragedy directed by Ranjan Ghosh portrayed Abir Chatterjee as Abhijit, a mathematics professor who falls in love with Debjani (Raima Sen) a cardiologist at the peak of her career. The twisted narrative leads one thing to the other and Abhijit's seemed to be perfect life slowly crumbles around him when his obsessive love for wife Debjani swells over just like a hungry tide on the sands of time and it turns out both fatal and transient.

Director Manoj Michigan, this film showed why Abir is called as the one-man army in Tollywood. He is certainly every director's delight. Although at the initial phase of the film, his character to some extent reminded us of his previous portrayal of 'Abby Sen', with the film’s progress his character starts to reform and transforms into a completely different one. Abir as Joy Chatterjee will no doubt compel you to reconstruct yourself. Jaya Ahsan too leaves her mark opposite Abir.

When Abir essayed out a young Feluda in Sandip Ray’s 'Badshahi Angti', people were intrigued with the transition in his image from Byomkesh Bakshi. He fits the bill as a star with his much younger image, athletic physic, height, intelligent face; all the essential prerequisites which Satyajit Ray had specified in his iconic sleuth character. In this thriller, Feluda and Topshe (Sourav Das) while on a vacation in Lucknow, gets involved in an attempted robbery of a priceless ring that had a connection with Emperor Aurangzeb and the mystery of the missing ring largely forms the thrilling plot.

The Bengali thriller directed by Rajesh Ganguly stars Abir Chatterjee, Jeet, Priyanka Sarkar and Shraddha Das in the lead. Abir brilliantly portrayed a common man who deals with everyday issues leaving his ego brutally crushed and bruised when he befriends a mysterious friend who guides him to live life without fear. Abir and his alter ego, depicted in the film as the friend, embark on a journey which leads to a well-executed thriller.

‘Har Har Byomkesh’ happens to be the first in the Byomkesh Bakshi series directed by Arindam Sil and starred Abir in the lead role. Here, Byomkesh investigates the murder of a wealthy man who had just organised a party in Banaras to celebrate his recovery from a long illness. Abir maintained the ‘Bengali intelligent’ look quite well as the treatment of the plot gave Byomkesh the visual and emotional headspace it deserves.

‘Byomkesh Parbo’ successfully captivated the audience with a more gripping story and some unabated action. Abir as the quintessential cerebral Bengali sleuth revealed his daring side as he pulled off few daredevil stunts for the very the first time. The film starts just after the independence, where the Byomkesh makes his way through the deep jungles of Dooars solving the mystery of a ghost-rider and recent murders in north Bengal.

Mainly a cross-border love story on the backdrop of India and Bangladesh, ‘Bisorjon’ emotionally touches upon several sensitive issues, which are mostly discussed in a hush-hush way. Jaya Ahsan (Padma) played the female lead opposite Abir (Naser Ali), while actor-director Kaushik Ganguly adding the necessary tinge of humour to the narrative with his unique ‘Bangal’ dialogue-delivery. Abir did an outstanding job playing the Indian smuggler, who finds it difficult to adjust with his new identity.

Abir’s smart appearance as the protagonist Subarna Sen AKA Sona da, a history professor from Oxford University, in this treasure hunt drama is the main USP to attract the audience. He has played sleuth characters like Byomkesh and Feluda, but as the young and intelligent heartthrob, Abir once again wins hearts. ‘Guptodhoner Sondhane’ is an ideal example of horror adventure mystery which manages to save itself from falling into the pit termed as ‘blending genre’.

Arindam Sil's directorial debut seemed to be a tribute to Satyajit Ray. The film follows the relentless pursuit of prominence in one's career. The alienation from close ones in sensitivity and feelings while playing a vortex of emotions, drama and relationships between characters are actually inspired by protagonists in several Satyajit Ray's Films. Abir Chatterjee’s performance as Hori Bose received rave reviews giving the intense family drama a breath of fresh air despite emotional complexities.
