Actors and journalists, particularly entertainment journalists, have always maintained a love-hate relationship, and we are well aware why that’s the case! Sharmila Tagore in 'Nayak' (1966)

In this Satyajit Ray masterpiece, Aditi (played by Sharmila Tagore) interviews Arindam (played by Uttam Kumar), the mahanayak of Bengali cinema, with her deep-rooted indignation for the celebrities. But she uncovers a lonely man with shades of guilt, agony, and insecurity embedded under the perfectly maintained glamorous image. A journalist from a renowned female magazine plays the catalyst in the narration and leaves the 'Nayak' with no other choice but to pour his heart out.

Raima Sen in 'Baishe Srabon' (2011)

Srijit Mukherji's second directorial 'Baishe Srabon' revolves around a fascinating story between a serial killer, an ex-cop played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, and a young police officer played by Parambrata Chatterjee. While the main narrative unveils a recent series of killings in Kolkata, the subplot includes Raima Sen and Abir Chatterjee, two brave-heart TV journalists who are carrying out their own investigation on this eccentric killer and follows Nibaron Chakraborty (Gautam Ghose), the main suspect behind the current murders.

Nandita Das in 'Shubho Mahurat' (2003)

A veteran actress dies while she was giving an interview to renowned entertainment journalist Mallika Sen (played by Nandita Das). Due to the mystery surrounding the death, it becomes a police investigation and unlocks many facets of Bengali film industry’s celebrated and forgotten faces. The journalist plays a symbolic bridge between all the incidents and her Ranga Pishima who solves the murder mystery just sitting at her place in this supreme Bengali adaptation of Agatha Christie's popular work 'The Mirror Cracked from Side to Side'.

Uttam Kumar in 'Memsaheb' (1972)

Inspired by the famous novel by Nimai Bhattacharya, this Pinaki Mukherjee directorial narrates the story of a woman fondly called as 'Memsaheb' by everyone. Uttam Kumar, playing her male counterpart, turns out to be her only inspiration. In this romantic drama, the legendary actor essayed out a hotshot journalist who enjoys great connections to several political personalities. This film taught us what the ethics of journalism means.

Radhika Apte in 'Antaheen' (2009)

Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s ‘Antaheen’ deals with an endless wait beautifully wrapped in an almost poetic film narrative. In the movie, Radhika Apte was cast as Brinda, a journalist who comes close to an IPS officer Abhik Chowdhury but doesn’t know his actual identity. She manages to take an interview with him, but she walks a long way to ultimately recognize the IPS officer as her love. Brinda requests Abhik to meet, sadly the meeting never takes place.

Konkona Sensharma in 'Shunyo Awnko' (2013)

'Shunyo Awnko' directed by Gautam Ghose revolves around the stories of different individuals connected by a single string. In this critically acclaimed movie, Konkona was seen as Raka, an unstoppable journalist who leaves her relatively easy ‘page 3’ job without any hesitation for assignments related to tribal issues.

Ankush in 'Kanamachi' (2013)

Raj Chakraborty's 'Kanamachi' is a political thriller in which photojournalist Ankush and his friend Srabanti manages to expose the corrupt leaders and highlights the campaigns of Abir Chatterjee, who is an honest and dedicated candidate for the position of Chief Minister. But after he wins the election, the reporter duo discovers the disturbing truth behind their new chief minister’s so-called clean image.

Srabanti Chakraborty in 'Sesh Sangbad' (2016)

Srabanti plays a TV journalist Sharmistha who is well known for her sheer dedication towards her profession. She is a master of conducting critical string operations and when it comes to digging up the truth, she would stop at nothing. This Pallav Gupta directorial shows how far an honest journalist can go to maintain his/her professional ethics.
