Rachita Akhilesh Chauhan, who is making her Tollywood debut in Anindo Banerjees Chaplin opposite actor-director Srijit Mukherji, has decided to drop her surname. The actor will henceforth just go by her first name Rachita.
Ask Rachita, who has already made her Bollywood debut in Yeh Faasley, why she has chosen to drop her surname and she says the reasons are partly numerological.
The decision was essentially my mothers. She believes that going by my first name Rachita is numerologically more viable for me. I didnt object to her since I also felt there is no harm in trying my luck with fate. Besides, my mom is an ardent believer in numerology and she convinced me to drop my surname, Rachita says.
Numerology apart, this shift will also help Rachita do away with unnecessary confusion. My first film, Yeh Faasley, was as Rachita Bhattacharya. Post-marriage, I realized Rachita Bhattacharya Chauhan would be a long name for me to carry. Besides, if I used Rachita Akhilesh Chauhan, there was this confusion brewing over whether I am a Bengali or not. I am very much a Bengali. I come from an Army background and have changed 17 schools in my life. I am a Bengali but have always lived in Punjab. However, I can speak in my mother tongue. In fact, I can read Bengali now though I am a little slow at it, she adds.
Meanwhile, Rachita has also completed the shooting of Kamaleshwar Mukherjees Uro Chithi. This too should release in July. I play a colleague of Indraneil Sengupta. When my character gets fired, I bank on him to fight for me. But, I am not a central character in this movie. It was nice to work with Indraneil though we didnt interact too much, she says. But Rachita has had a lot more interaction with Srijit while shooting for Chaplin. He helped me a lot to get under the skin of the character, she concludes.
