You can’t deny the iconic romantic pair Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen when talking about evergreen pairs. Uttam and Suchitra was the source of star-power and charisma of Bengali cinema’s black and white era. The ‘jodi’ was regarded as the champion of romance and eternal love. Both passion and pathos defined the pair’s cinematic tryst. The memorable hits of Uttam and Suchitra such as 'Priyo Bandhabi', 'Har Mana Har', 'Nabarag', 'Kamallata', 'Grihadaha', ‘Uttar Phalguni’, ‘Sare Chuattor’ launched a new era in Bengali cinema.

Soumitra Chatterjee and Sharmila Tagore

A whole lot of Bengali cinema’s golden era was ruled by this pair. Be it ‘Apur Sansar’, ‘Aranyer Din Ratri’ or ‘Barnali’, the handsome Soumitra Chatterjee gave a tough fight to legendary actor Uttam Kumar as he dazzled his best with a charming Sharmila. In his debut film Apur Sansar, Soumitra successfully re-calibrated the bar set for pensive attractiveness by giving his character an awesome depth and emotional attachment along with on-screen partner Sharmila.

Uttam Kumar and Sabitri Chattopadhyay

The late fifties in Bengali industry welcomed another historic jodi to the 70MM screen: Sabitri Chattopadhyay and Uttam Kumar. The evergreen pair worked together in as many as 39 hit movies. Some of the most popular works of Sabitri and Uttam Kumar was in films like 'Mouchak', 'Grihadaha, Shesh Anko', 'Raja Saja', 'Marutirtha Hinglaj', 'Abhoyer Biye', 'Abak Prithibi' etc.

Bhanu Bandopadhyay and Ruma Guhathakurta

Undoubtedly, the king of romantic comedy, Bhanu Bandopadhyay sharing screen space with gorgeous Ruma Guhathakurta was atreat to watch. This sweet pair introduced a new genre of romance on screen mixing comedy with love. The two films they acted together, ‘Ashiteo Ashiona’ and ‘Personal Assistant’ will never be forgotten. You can watch them again and again. Who dares to forget their classic love song ‘Tumi akash ekhon jodi hote!’

Prosenjit-Rituparna

The inseparable screen duos of the 90s, who parted ways after ‘Jamaibabu Zindabad’ in 2001, had gifted some smashing hits at the box office. There was no such formal announcement on the surprising breakup of the pair, but it was clear Prasenjit and Rituparna were not interested in working with each other anymore. It took 15 long years to bring back the jodi as they played the lead characters in 2016 hit ‘Praktan’. They last appeared in Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Dristikone’.

Debashree Roy and Tapas Pal

Not just Prasenjit-Rituparna, Bengali film market was ruled by another hit pair of Debashree and Tapas Pal in the 90s. The jodi enjoyed an amazing chemistry on the celluloid which saw the two actors appearing in a staggering 33 movies. Commercial hits like 'Bhalo Meye Mondo Meye', 'Arpan', 'Jiban', 'Bhalobasa Bhalobasa', 'Dadar Kirti', 'Aagaman' gave Tapas Pal and Debashree so much fame.

Koel Mallick and Jeet Madnani

Being one of the successful onscreen jodi of Bengali cinema, both are regarded as superstars in their own right. Even the fans once gave them a sweet nickname ‘Jeko’. Koel and Jeet also has a great off-screen chemistry which reflected on the celluloid and the cinelovers never ever bored of their acting. The most popular movies like '100% Love', 'Dui Prithibi', 'Neel Akasher Chandni', 'Saat Pake Bandha', 'Ghatak', 'Besh Korechi Prem Korechi'; all proved to be Box Office hit. Some even called them as ‘Tom and Jerry’, one is incomplete in absence of the other.

Subhashree Ganguly and Dev Adhikari

This jodi became Tollywood's most popular figure for love and romance. The pair, termed as the poster child of reel-time chemistry, featured in several Box Office hits. Even the on-screen togetherness resulted in a much talked about affair which lasted five years. From the very first day, Dev became Subhashree’s friend, philosopher and guide. However, nothing lasts forever and so the couple is broken up now but remains good friends.
