Wasseypur might be the scene of action right now, but some amount of euphoria surrounding Anurag Kashyap's latest film has rubbed off on Kolkata as well. Singer Usri Banerjee, who belongs to the city, is the voice behind the earthy 'Man mauji' number.
Talking about her dream debut in Bollywood, Usri says, 'Composer
Sneha Khanwalkar had heard my voice and asked me to come over one day.
Piyush bhai (Mishra) was also present. This song is composed by him and they wanted me to lend my voice to the track. It's a folk song with strong melody that exudes a '60s flavour. A strain of nostalgia runs through the number.'
So, what feedback did the singer receive? 'Sneha told me that Anurag had liked the song,' she says. And the response from hubby Bonnie Chakraborty? 'He thought this was a perfect launchpad for me in Bollywood. The song too is close to his heart,' she adds. Usri, who had sung for
Kaushik Ganguly's 'Rang Milanti', is also open to working in Tollywood, despite being based in Mumbai. 'I'm open to all regional industries and most definitely Tollywood, because Kolkata is where I come from.'
