Kaushik Sen receives death threat

Recently, a group of eminent personalities sent open letters to PM Narendra Modi expressing their concern over the unfortunate and gruesome incidents of political lynching across the country. Bengali actor Kaushik Sen is one of the signatories who has allegedly received death threats for the same. “I am receiving anonymous calls for years. It actually increased from 2007. But this is for the first time that I have received a death threat by someone," said the actor. However, Kaushik will not get shaken by the threats. “I have informed the police. West Bengal is not a place where these people can do anything they want," he said.

Vinay Pathak starts shooting for ‘Mitin Mashi’

It will be a treat to watch him for the first time in a Bengali film. Yes, we are talking about Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak who is playing a crucial role in Arindam Sil’s next detective thriller ‘Mitin Mashi’ where Koel Mallick plays the titular role. Vinay will be seen as a Parsi businessman in the film as Arindam promises to explore the Parsi community of Kolkata elaborately in this film. The versatile actor has already started shooting for the thriller and he is equally excited to be a part of a Bengali film for the first time. On Monday an important sequence was being shot with Vinay along with June Malia who is also playing a major role in the film.

‘Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo’ to release on August 15

The wait is finally over. After teasing the Bengali cine buffs with a series of posters and introducing Ritwick Chakraborty as the new detective on the block, the much-awaited trailer of Pratim D Gupta’s ‘Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo’ is out now and it has created quite a lot of buzz. The thriller will hit the theatres on August 15. Ritwick Chakraborty will play the titular role of staff reporter Shantilal Bhattacharya who will decode the mystery. This is the fourth time Ritwick is working with Pratim. Beside Ritwick, Paoli Dam will play the female lead, a popular actress Nandini. While Ritwick will be seen as the journalist, noted director Goutam Ghose will essay out his editor’s role. The film also has Ambarish Bhattacharya, Shankar Chakraborty and Satarupa Ghosh in key roles. There will be a cameo by Srijit Mukherji as well.

Rituparna in contention for Best Actress award

Rituparna Sengupta will be competing for the Best Actress award at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2019 along with some of the nation’s best like Tabu, Neena Gupta, Alia Bhatt for her praiseworthy performance in Ranjan Ghosh’s critically acclaimed love story ‘Ahaa Re’. The film ‘Ahaa Re’ which released earlier this year revolves around a rich Muslim chef from Dhaka (Arifin Shuvoo) and a middle-class Hindu home cook from Calcutta (Rituparna Sengupta). She specializes in traditional Bengali cuisine while Arifin is a master of Bangladeshi dishes. The duo meets and discovers love through their shared passion for food and cooking. The film is as much about love as it is about life's struggles and explores why and how our religious identities should take a backseat when there are so many inspiring stories around us.

Nusrat vows to fight for humanity

Tollywood actress turned TMC MP Nusrat Jahan has lent her support for the open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by 49 eminent personalities raising concern over the mob lynching incidents and hate crimes against Muslims and Dalits. Nusrat has urged India's unity in diversity shouldn’t be destroyed. The newly-elected MP from Basirhat constituency took to her Twitter handle to share a post expressing her support for the letter written by 49 intellectuals, including renowned actor-turned filmmaker Aparna Sen. "There are numerous incidents of citizens being attacked by so-called "cow vigilantes" over rumours of eating beef, or cow-smuggling, etc and government's selective silence and inaction hits us hard," Nusrat said in the post.

A silent film on colour blindness

Independent filmmaker Anirban Dutta is making a film about color-blindness. It tells the story of a girl named Anu who dreams of living and dream beyond her. The real Anu has color-blindness. Anirban says that his film was inspired by a girl he had met at the Basanta Utsav in Bolpur. The girl dressed herself up as Lord Krishna. When he discovered that she was color-blind, Anirban came up with the story for this film. He said: The story that inspired me to make this film was when I saw this girl with mesmerising eyes. There wasn’t a moment when she didn’t seem like Krishna. When I went close to her and appreciated her makeup, she replied that she doesn’t feel the hues as much as I can see and feel them.

‘Parineeta’ to release on September 6

Raj Chakraborty’s ‘Parinita’ has already grabbed the attention for all the good reasons. Be it the trailer or the first song ‘Tomake’, the upcoming love saga has sent social media into a tizzy. And now, here’s a piece of good news for all those who are eagerly waiting for the film to come out. ‘Parineeta’, which is Subhashree Ganguly’s first film post marriage and first time pairing opposite Ritwick Chakraborty, has finally locked a release date. Instead of August, the film will release on September 6. Beside Ritwick and Subhashree, Gaurav Chakraborty will be seen as big-shot realtor, owner of a big real estate company. The film also stars Adrit Roy, Laboni Sarkar and Tulika Basu in pivotal roles.

Camera starts rolling for Mainak’s next ‘Goyenda Junior’

Mainak Bhaumik has come up with a new teen detective in his next ‘Goyenda Junior’. The movie sees Rwitobroto Mukherjee reuniting with Mainak as the titular character after creating a lot of buzz last year with ‘Generation Aami’. The film has already hit the floors on July 22. Rwitobroto plays an orphan boy Vikram, an ordinary 16-years-old staying with his uncle who is a cop. He starts assisting him in a criminal case and solves it with his sheer observation power. Bikram is also an intelligent and witty boy, who is good at studies and loves to read crime thrillers.

Lillete Dubey in Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s next

Seasoned actress Lillete Dubey is playing a crucial role in Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s ‘Shock Ahlad’ which also stars Arjun Chakrabarty and Sauraseni Moitra in the lead. “I am playing a Punjabi grandmother whose daughter is married to a Bengali. She is very forward-thinking, fun-loving and a kind of granny with whom you bond and talk to since she is very open-minded about everything. It’s a fun character, very real, and nicely written, and I have a lot of Bengali co-actor friends in it,” said Lillete. The story explores the love and the crisis today’s generation face. June Malia, Churni Ganguly and Kaushik Sen will also play pivotal roles roles in ‘Shock Ahlad’.
