He's young, he's dashing and now he's on cloud nine. After all, small screen's Shaheb Bhattacherjee will soon be big screen's Topshe. The actor is elated that the search for Feluda's niece finally ended with him. After
Parambrata Chattopadhyay, who had so far, donned the coveted chair, was unavailable for the role post-Tintorettor Jishu, director Sandip Ray was on the look out for a replacement for his forthcoming Feluda film titled, Gorosthane Sabdhan.
Talking about how the role fell on his lap, Shaheb elucidates, 'I got a call from Sir (Sandip Ray) asking me to meet him. During the course of the conversation, he told me that he had been following my stint on television and asked, 'Tumi Gorosthane Sabdhan porechho?' When I answered in the negative, he suggested I read the book and let him know if I would be interested in being the next Topshe.'
Shaheb, on his part, wanted to jump at the offer and give his nod right there and then. 'I had to pinch myself to believe it. The offer was too good to be true,' the actor confesses, adding that he got hold of the book, read it up and made his decision known to 'Sir'. 'In fact, Sir told me 'Amake Babu da bole dakbe', but I've still not been able to bring myself to it,' he continues.
With Param already having set a benchmark for Topshe, wouldn't it be difficult for Shaheb to break into the mould, one wonders. To this, the actor, whose favourite Topshe is Siddhartha, justifies, 'If I keep delving on such issues, I'll never be able to do justice to my role. Once on the sets, I'll blindly follow my director. And this time around, Topshe will be my interpretation of the character. ' As of now, the actor has immersed himself in the Feluda series just to get a feel of the character. The shooting for the film is expected to start from the end of April.
