Rituparno is busy with 'Chitrangada'

Rituparno Ghosh shoots his first 'action' sequence with Jisshu Sengupta in 'Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish'
Rituparno is busy with 'Chitrangada'
Someone on the sets of Chitrangada: The Crowning Wish said this is Rituparno Ghoshs first action movie! Shocking? Well, could seem so unless one watched how he mercilessly kicked Jisshu on stage while shooting for the movie on Friday morning.
The scene was one where Jisshu, a druggie drummer, fails to respond to the instructions of Rituparno, who is playing a choreographer.

Yes, it did hurt because there were rehearsals before the take and more so, because Rituparno kicked Jisshu exactly at the crucial juncture where the latter had injured himself when he had had a bike accident in the recent past.

Of course, it wasnt easy to kick Jisshu that way, especially since the director is extremely fond of him. I call Jisshu my son and Dolu (Raima), my daughter. But when I am shooting, I go completely blank and just concentrate on the job at hand, he said, during the rehearsals. Its only the dust on the floor that irritates him a little because of his eye for detail. If a choreographer is walking up on stage, he cant have such dirty feet and stamp Jisshus clothes with dust when he kicks him. Someone has to sweep the floor and clean my feet, he insisted. A lady quickly came to his assistance to wipe off the dust only to be kissed on the forehead after the job was done.
Just before the take, Jisshu insisted: Kick me hard, Rituda. And Rituparno didnt compromise. Just after the cut, someone quipped This is Rituparnos first action film without Judo Ramu.
While everyone broke into peals of laughter, Jisshu said, Ive two mentors in the industry. Debangshu Sengupta and Rituda. When I read this script, I told Rituda that he didnt need to offer me any remuneration but just a good drum kit. Jokes apart, Ive quit doing commercial movies. Be it Takhan Teish, Ar Ekti Premer Golpo and this Im hungry for good acting assignments now. The film is shaping up well. While shooting, Rituda accidentally hit me exactly where I got hurt, recently, when I rammed my new bike into a car on the EM Bypass. That was before we began shooting for this film.

While on accidents, Rituparno himself met with one while shooting for this film. The stitches on his forehead were still visible. He just took a few days break to recover. But, his energy levels havent sapped and he was back to shooting with equal passion and energy. He has these action scenes as well as one where he has dance performances, said Sanjoy Nag, associate director of the movie. Incidentally, composer Debajyoti Mishra was present on the sets too. I usually never come to the sets. But, today, my musicians (Vachagan Tadevosyan, Asrujit Nandi and Peter Von Becker, among others) are shooting. Kaushiki Desikan, who has also sung for me in this film, is shooting a scene too where she will be shown in performance. Needless to say, music plays a very important role in the film.
At a distance, stood Raima Sen. Mine is more of a guest appearance. But, being with Rituda is a learning experience for me. I play a dancer who is into a relationship with Jisshus character, Raima said. In the film, Jisshu dumps Rituparno because of a curious turn of events in Ritus life and falls for Raima. The twist in the tale comes when he returns to Ritu again during a moment of crisis. And going by Jisshus words, Arghyakamal Mitra has edited a portion of the film and we all agree that its shaping up to being truly international.
