Shillong date for Sumans Sesher Kobita with Rahul Bose, Konkona Sen Sharma and Swastika Mukherjee from June 1
Rahul, Konkona and Swastika for Suman's next film
"Mr & Mrs Iyer didnt act as a reference point. Nor did 15 Park Avenue. Suman Mukhopadhyay, who is bringing together Konkona Sen Sharma and Rahul Bose for his screen adaptation of Sesher Kobita, feels its a fresh, new pairing. And playing the uber glamorous Ketoki in the film is Swastika Mukherjee. The director begins shooting from June 1 in the misty hills of Shillong where the romance between Amit Ray and Labonyo builds up.
1x1 polls

Suman, who is leaving for the Festival de Cannes on May 15, has already done the recce of the hill town. On returning to Kolkata on May 24, he would be off to Shillong on May 30, where the director would be joined by the cast. We have a 22-day shoot in Shillong. After that, well can a portion of the film in Kolkata and the rest will be shot in Oxford. But that would around end-July, Suman fills us in.
Ask him about the much-celebrated pairing and the director says that even though the duo has left a tremendous impact on celluloid with their powerhouse performances, for him, the cast is in sync with the characters etched out by Tagore. Amit is erudite. He has an air about him and can be superficial at a certain level. All these traits made me think of Rahul. Even the characters physicality matches with that of the actor. Labonyo, on the other hand, is an ultra-sensitive girl. She is not traditionally beautiful, he says. Rahul-Koko pair up again.
Adds Suman, The novel says that unlike women whose beauty can be compared to that of a moonlit night, Labonyo is like broad daylight. I thought Konkona is best-suited for the part. Both actors were excited about their parts when the story was narrated to them. He also thinks Swastika too has it in her to get under the skin of Ketoki.
While the cinematography will be done by Sirsha Ray, music for Sesher Kobita will be scored by Debajyoti Mishra. Says the composer, Its a period piece and a lot of effort will be need to recreate the music of that era. Apart from Rabindrasangeet, there will be quite a few English numbers that the Oxford-returned Bengalis would listen to during that time. Work has already begun. Well hit the recording studio on May 24.
