For Sampurna Lahiri, Durga Puja has always been synonymous with freedom, a time to break free from routine and indulge in the festive spirit. "Pujo meant freedom for me since childhood—breaking away from the routine, with relaxed curfew hours and all the food I wanted to eat," Sampurna recalls fondly. "That feeling continues even now that I’ve grown up."
One of her favourite aspects of the festival is how Kolkata comes alive. "The city doesn’t sleep during Puja, and that’s something I love. The excitement is in the air, from staying up for adda with friends to planning with family."
When it comes to food, Sampurna ensures her Puja days are filled with culinary delights. "The food planning is crucial," she laughs. "We decide which day to cook mutton, and biryani is a must at night on any Puja day." These traditions, she says, have been an integral part of her Puja celebrations for as long as she can remember.
With Durga Puja around the corner, Sampurna is ready to dive into the festive whirlwind once again—armed with her love for food, family, and the unique energy that only Pujo can bring.
