Why they don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day?

While the city is gearing up for one of the most important events of the calendar — Valentine’s Day — there are people who still believe that love cannot be celebrated on a specific day. It’s something that should be celebrated every day. Whether they are single, dating someone or married, we've found these Bengali stars who think the whole day of love is absolutely ridiculous. They have often voiced their opinions on social media and during interviews. To be honest, fans won't be able to disagree with them! Check out why these celebs don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Paoli Dam

Since childhood Saraswati Puja is more important to me than Valentine’s Day. There was no celebration on February 14. Instead we used to have a lot of fun on ‘Bangali prem dibosh’. I studied in Loreto, we didn’t have Saraswati Puja. So it was a Holiday and I used to visit friend’s house, eat the delicious bhog. I still remember I received a love letter when I was in class 9. But it’s not on Valentine’s Day, it was Saraswati Puja. Now, after marriage I get a surprise gift from my husband Arjun, he is so romantic. We may go out for dinner, but there’s nothing special as its February 14.

I don't believe in any special day to celebrate anything, be it love or parenthood. If you love someone, you love that person 365 days a year. Why single out one day for that? But I like those who celebrate the day. How lovingly they stand in a queue, lost in each other, to get a seat at a restaurant! And it's a good thing that florists or gift-sellers make money on that day. It boosts the economy, doesn't it?

I was never a Valentine's Day person, as for me, love is eternal. As far as I'm concerned, love is more about relationships and the understanding between two people. Moreover, Valentine's Day has become very commercial and it's the traders who profit from it the most. It's hardly about love any longer. Everyone is under pressure to buy expensive gifts for their beloved. That's not my idea of love.

For me, it's Valentine's Day 365 days a year, so why restrict myself to just one day? I am always in love and each day is a rose day, teddy day, chocolate day, ice cream day and so on. If you truly love someone, every day is a Valentine's Day. It's just another day and we shouldn't get caught up in the pressure to buy out our partner's love.

I am an artiste and it's my job to portray the emotions people feel on screen. So, in a way, I'm in touch with the romantic side of life almost 365 days a year, or at least when I'm acting. That way, I've never really felt the need to celebrate love on one particular day. But, seriously, I guess I'm mature enough to understand love is not about gifts, but about human relationships.
