Agnidev Chatterjees second film, Charuulata 2011, produced by SPS Arts and Enter tainment Ltd, is inspired by Rabindranath Tagores short story, Nashtonir. Though the plot structure of C h a r u u l at a 2011 is inspired by Nashtonir, it veers away from the confines of a period drama and is set in a more c o n t e m p o r a r y background.
But it retains the inherent complexities. There is also a feminist angle in this film, which asserts that todays woman loves to lead life on her own terms, says Agnidev.
However, the music of Charuulata 2011 has no similarities with Rays Charulata. There shouldnt be any comparison between the two films. Ray is a stalwart and Charulata is a milestone. We have learnt from his works. The music of Charuulata 2011 is melodious and while composing it, I just went with the flow. Ustad Rashid Khan has recorded a Bengali song for this film, informs music c o m p o s e r Indraadip Das Gupta.
Ask Agnidev how it was working with the production house and he says, I have been associated with them over a decade now. They have produced films like Yatra and 15 Park Avenue. Bipinda is one of the most non-interfering producers that I have come across till date and I like his quest for producing quality and meaningful cinema.
Speaking about Charuulata 2011 and producing a particular genre of movies, Bipin Vohra, chairman of the production house, elaborates, We have always worked on strong subjects and I feel Nashtonir is one of the most marvellous novels of Tagore. So, we thought of making a film based on it which celebrates woman power.
