My body, my rules! Celebs who’ve fiercely shut down body shaming

Body shaming? There are quite a few celebs who have absolutely no time for that. From Priyanka Chopra, Paoli Dam to Swastika Mukherjee and Vidya Balan, these celebs have shut down weight critics like a true boss. They have time and again fought back with classy replies that literally schooled these online haters. Read on…

Celebs who openly spoke about their sex lives

2/10

Swastika Mukherjee

The vicious circle of shaming someone for how they look just never ends. Swastika Mukherjee who has always raised her voice for body positivity once slammed trolls who shamed her for having 'saggy breasts'! Swastika schooled those people by saying that it is very normal for a mother who has breastfed her child to have “saggy boobs." “Why are men always commenting on women’s saggy boobs?”, she asked. She has often spoken about how society has an endless list of what women should ideally look like and quite frankly it's obnoxious that women still have to deal with such things.

3/10

Vidya Balan

She's one such actress who's been waging a long battle with body-shaming much before it became the 'in' thing on social media. Vidya Balan admits to feeling angry and having hormonal problems at being judged for her body and choices, but she has finally learnt to accept her body. It was while shooting for 'Begum Jaan' that she learnt to harness all the anger at being judged for her body, her dressing and being a jinx in the initial stages of her career in South. The actress wants all women to stop judging themselves due to their body problems. She believes that all her problems stemmed from the fact that she herself was rejecting her body. She says that if women try to seek validation from others, they'll always fall short. So, they should just learn to accept themselves.

4/10

Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra has undergone a drastic physical transformation since his Bollywood debut. However, the actress still receives hateful comments about her body. The actress feels no one has the right to comment on how people look or how fit they are. She said in an interview that body shaming will soon become a thing of the past. According to her, if one is not comfortable about one’s body, he/she should do something about it. However, if you are comfortable, let it be. She added that other people have no right to comment anyway.

5/10

Ritabhari Chakraborty

The actress had to bite the bitter pill as she gained a few kilos after two surgeries. Ritabhari believes the definition of beauty has changed over the years. It’s our popular culture that dictates how womanly beauty has to be perceived. But she has one question. Why will a woman’s beauty be defined by her body? There’s always more to her. She says the general idea that you have to be fair and young to look good in someone’s eyes is simply pitiful. Ritabhari’s body went through a lot, as she had two surgeries and she believes she should be kind to her body to stay alive. How people will look at her can’t define her priorities in life.

6/10

Radhika Apte

Radhika Apte handles trolls on almost a daily basis. The actress has also been trolled and body shamed many times on social media. Speaking about the same in an interview with a news portal, Radhika reportedly said that jokes on colour and body shaming should not be encouraged. According to her, it is simply not funny to crack jokes on these subjects.

7/10

Paoli Dam

“Meyeta kalo, naakta byanka – were the only two compliments Paoli would get when she first got into acting. But she never gave up. Back then, people had a general conception that only fair girls can be ideal for the lead roles. So, she used to get characters like the heroine’s sister. Still, she didn’t lose faith. It was after the film ‘Kalbela’ that everybody was taking Paoli more seriously. Her skin colour suddenly became a boon rather than a disadvantage. Her unconventional look actually worked for her. She suggests those who are soft targets of body shaming need to ignore it and focus on their goal.

8/10

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka once in an interview revealed that she was body shamed even in the industry because of her complexion. The actress was called 'black cat' and 'dusky' in a country where literally everyone was brown. According to her, she had to work harder than her counterparts even though she believed that she was more talented than them and all this because she was not fair skinned. Priyanka who often speaks against body shaming added all that probably had to do with India's colonial past. According to her, it has not even been 100 years since India shed the British Raj so people here are still holding on to it. It is up to our generation to be able to cut those ties and change it so the next generation doesn't inherit the equity placed on light skin, the actress told BBC.

9/10

Sreelekha Mitra

The actress says she’s just fade up of this body shaming, it irritates her now. Why people have to judge someone on their weight, skin colour or height? After Sreelekha’s daughter’s birth, she had put on some weight but that doesn’t give people the right to comment on it? There were times when directors used to tell her that they were not signing her because of overweight! After some time Sreelekha herself decided to lose some weight. It’s her own decision to see what looks good or bad on her. She says she doesn’t give a damn as she is confident and knows how to flaunt a short dress. Sreelekha is known for her razor-sharp tongue and has often shut down trolls like a true boss.

10/10

Subhashree Ganguly

Ever since Subhashree gave birth to Yuvaan she has been trolled and the reason is she gained weight after her delivery and now people are trolling her because she has lost weight. However, the actress simply doesn’t care. She in fact says if people are sick and have all the time to engage in all these negativities, they are welcome to do so since she is a positive person by nature. Subhashree doesn’t even read those negative remarks.
