Murari Rakshit’s ‘Reunion’ set for UAE release

Murari Rakshit’s directorial debut ‘Reunion’ which saw its theatrical release in India in December last year is set to make cinematic history in UAE.
This is the first time a star-studded commercial Bengali film, starring Raima Sen, Parambrata Chatterjee and Anindita Bose, will be released in Dubai. Generally, the Bengali community in UAE relies on festivals or their annual vacations to India to enjoy Bengali cinema.But the trend is now changing. The film, exploring the murky world of student politics in colleges, is out in UAE on April 2.

The film taps into the nostalgia of old college friends coming together after a long time. And when it’s a university in Bengal how can student politics and the related violence be left behind? ‘Reunion’ focuses on blending the wistfulness attached to a walk down the memory lane with the brutality of hard-nosed politics.

‘Reunion’ sees Parambrata Chatterjee and Raima Sen teaming up after Kaushik Ganguly’s ‘Bastu Shaap’ (2016). Raima plays an independent lady Monideepa in the film. The film actually stands on the strength of two shining performances by Parambrata and Raima. Seasoned performers as they always have been, the pair would have carried this off in their sleep as well and it’s the presence of the two acting powerhouses that gives the film its elegiac undertones, and an open-ended climax.
