Bengali films to watch out for this February

There are a series of releases lined up to amaze the Bengali movie buffs this February. Just like the first month of 2020, cinephiles have plenty to be excited about this February as films like Love Aaj Kal Porshu, Borunbabur Bondhu are all geared up for theatrical releases. . Here are the names and dates you’ll want to bookmark on your calendar.

'Borunbabur Bondhu'

Based on Ramapada Chowdhury's story Chhad, the film directed by Anik Dutta revolves around an octogenarian, played by Soumitra, who has somehow isolated himself from the society and his immediate family except a close friend who visits him regularly and his grandson. Soon others too start avoiding him since he is a quite aloof and reclusive and sometimes abrasive. Produced by Surinder Films, the film also stars Arpita Chatterjee, Ritwick Chakraborty, Madhabi Mukherjee, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Sreelekha Mitra, Kaushik Sen and Bidipta Chakraborty among others. The film releases on February 28.

'Shokuner Lov'

Anindya Bikas Datta’s upcoming thriller ‘Shokuner Lov’ sees a crime reporter risking his life to solve a 16-year-old murder. Can he overcome the challenges on the way? What will the outcome be? Sounds interesting, right! With an ensemble cast including Parambrata Chattopadhyay, Joy Sengupta, Tuhina Das, Shankar Chakrabort, Ratan Sarkhel and Tapati Munshi, the thriller is set for a February release. However, the exact date is yet to be known.

'Hullor'

Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s next ‘Hullor’, a comedy caper, promises to be a laugh riot. The comedy flick stars Soham Chakraborty, Om, Srabanti Chatterjee and Darshana Banik in the lead. After much delay the film has finally locked its release date on February 7. Produced by Eskay Movies, the film’s cast also includes Supriyo Dutta, Biswanath Basu and Kanchan Mullick among others. The story revolves around a shop and the age-old cold war between South and North Kolkata. While Soham and Srabanti are resedents of South Kolkata, Om and Darshana are from North Kolkata. Soham plays a gharjamai to a business tycoon and Srabanti is a doting wife. Subhasish Mukhopadhyay plays a funny astrologer who always looks to cheat people. Santilal Mukhopadhyay will be seen as a Maa Kali devotee who wants to build a mandir for Maa Kali.

'Sraboner Dhara'

In Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy’s ‘Sraboner Dhara’, we get to see Soumitra as an elderly history professor Amitabho, suffering from Alzheimer’s and Param plays Nilabho, a young doctor. There’s more to the acting powerhouse ensemble. Gargee Roychowdhury plays the pivotal role of Soumitra’s wife. While the film deals with the story of difficult to handle patients and how the people taking care of the sick are even more affected, there is also suspicious undertone to the relationship drama. The mystery prevails whether Gargee is actually Soumitra’s wife or someone else. The story also deals with identity crisis of three people. ‘Sraboner Dhara’ releases on February 7.

'Love Aaj Kal Porshu'

Pratim D Gupta’s ‘Love Aaj Kal Porshu’ is a thrill ride through the many facets of a modern-day love story. The film, starring Arjun Chakrabarty and Madhumita Sarkar in the lead, has already grabbed attention for its romance-oozing frames in the trailer. The backdrop is a world which looks familiar but may not be so. It’s not a run of the mill love story, but the story takes an intriguing look at the changing dynamics of man-woman relationships against a riveting backdrop. Produced by SVF, ‘Love Aaj Kal Porshu’ will release on February 14 celebrating Valentine’s Day.

'Korapaak'

Dev and Piyali meet each other by accident, become friends and end up falling in love. However, when it comes to marriage, the two find themselves confused. To solve the predicament they decide to conduct an experiment, but will they be able to prove their love for each other? The rom-com, directed by Souradip Banerjee, stars Paayel Sarkar and Sourav Das in the lead. It’s a romantic comedy which shows if one is true to his emotions and whether love survives despite the distance. Beside Sourav and Paayel, the film also has Anindya Chatterjee, Rii and others. The film is releasing on February 21.
