‘Jangale Mitin Mashi’ teaser speaks for wildlife conservation, promises an intense thriller
In the festive atmosphere of this year’s Durga Puja, Koel Mallick is set to make a bold statement on wildlife and environmental conservation through her upcoming film. Playing the role of the famous detective Mitin Mashi, created by late author Suchitra Bhattacharya, Koel's character serves as a crusader against poaching. The film has been directed by Arindam Sil, who first brought the character of Mitin Mashi, originally named Praggaparamita Mukhopadhyay, to the silver screen in 2019.
In this sequel, named ‘Jangale Mitin Mashi’, the sharp detective takes a perilous journey to combat poachers, traversing rugged terrains and engaging in gunfights. Koel portrays the character's adaptability, effortlessly switching between traditional sarees and jeans. The film features a diverse cast including Subhrajit Dutta, Asim Roychoudhury, Hiya, Samiul Alam, and Arijit Dutta, each playing different roles that contribute to the narrative.
Amid the buzzing atmosphere of the Puja season, where streets are filled with decorations and a shopping frenzy overtakes the weekends, Arindam Sil has already released a captivating teaser of the film, complete with a limerick that added to its allure. The timing is fitting, as people are more inclined to watch films during this festive period, making it an opportune moment to convey significant messages through cinema, as Sil himself believes.
Koel Mallick has not limited her role to just the film; she has taken it a step further. On World Elephants Day, August 12, she visited the Alipore Zoo, where she fed cakes to elephants and simultaneously promoted her film. Accompanying her were Wildlife Minister Jyotipriya Mallik, Arindam Sil, and Subhrajit, emphasizing the collective effort behind this conservation message.
This Durga Puja will see the release of four films, including Mitin Mashi. Other releases include Raktabeej, directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee; Dev’s Bagha Jatin, and Srijit Mukherji’s Dawham Awbotaar. With an ensemble of stars like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev, Koel, Abir Chatterjee, and Mimi Chakraborty gracing the screen, the Puja season promises a cinematic feast.
But what sets Mitin Mashi apart is its commitment to impart an urgent message— the preservation of wildlife and natural habitats. As the streets are adorned with pandals and the air is thick with festive spirit, Mitin Mashi aims to add substance to the celebration, challenging us to rethink our responsibilities toward nature.
