Sunday morning was a usual shooting day for Tamil actor Vishal, who was in town to film Prabhudhevas Vedi with Sameera Reddy. What made a little difference was the headline in TOI that said: Mother of two facing hard times attempts robbery with toy gun. Vishal, who has won a lot of recognition with Sandakozhi and Avan Ivan, was moved by the tale of gun-toting Poulomi Kushari, who had tried to rob a woman at an ATM counter of a private bank in Santoshpur because she didnt have enough money to support her children.
The next thing that the actor did was to get in touch with co-star Sameera Reddy and asked her if she could help him get in touch with this lady in distress.
Sameera, on her part, called up Calcutta Times and passed on Vishals message to us. He was so disturbed after reading the article that he wanted to find out if there is some way to get in touch with her. I feel, he has connected with the feature and wants to genuinely help, Sameera said, before she passed on Vishals number to us.
When CT got in touch with Vishal, he said, I was touched when I read this article. I wonder if this lady is genuine or not. If she is, I really want to help her financially. In the article, she had said that her kids havent eaten for two days. If she is in custody now, who is looking after the kids? I hope, there is someone at home to take care of those
little ones. I am really concerned for them and would like to help them out. If they want financial assistance for education, I am ready to help them out.
Vishals concern was then shared with Prabir Roy, Inspector-in-charge, Jadavpur Police Station. Said Roy, The lady is in the custody now. Its too early to say if her plea is genuine or not. Most petty criminals often come up with excuses of poverty when they are caught. We need time to find out how genuine she is. But, if someone wants to help her family, we can take him to her residence.
When Vishal was conveyed this message, he said, On Wednesday, I returned to Chennai. But Ive friends in Kolkata whom I can ask to go over to the police station to find out her details. Even if the lady is guilty, I want to help the kids. My experience of shooting in Kolkata was awesome. This was my second visit to Kolkata and I want to return again. This time over, I wish to catch up with my friends. If possible, I want to help these children.
