Being a long-time friend and a colleague of late
Rituparno Ghosh,
Sangeeta Datta took plenty of time while making ‘Bird Of Dusk’ which presents a rich documentation of the iconic filmmaker’s journey as an artiste, a human being and as well as the public persona Rituparno slowly transformed into. The documentary-feature saw a full house theatrical release at Nandan recently.
‘Bird Of Dusk’ is surely a well-documented work on Rituparno but has Sangeeta succeeded in creating a legacy of the world-renowned filmmaker through this documentary? Well, Sangeeta Datta doesn’t want to judge her work.
“I can’t sit here and make judgement over my work, that’s something others should tell. I just feel happy to finally make a docu-feature with a shoe-string budget, pure honesty and lots of love. The film has received praises in a number of international film festivals. Now I want the Bengali audience to appreciate the film. But frankly speaking, screening it in other parts of the world where the audience was not aware of the subject and still the love ‘Bird Of Dusk’ received and now they are waiting to see more of Rituparno’s works has been an extraordinary gift for us. I am also happy for my young team who worked so hard to see their film getting theatrical release and people buying tickets to watch it. I believe from now on, more documentary filmmakers will be confident about their future works,” said an elated Sangeeta Datta.
