Guess who will now direct ‘Lawho Gouranger Naam Re’ after Srijit left the film!
When fans got to know that Srijit Mukherji will be making a film on Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, that too Parambrata as 15th century religious reformer, it made everyone excited. The film was officially announced in 2021 and since then much has been said about the period drama. In the meantime, it was revealed in 2021 that Priyanka Sarkar will be seen as Noti Binodini and Bratya Basu as Girish Ghosh in the film. Since then the project was on the backburner due to several reasons ranging from date issues, logistical problems, creative differences among others.
Now we hear Srijit is no longer making ‘Lawho Gouranger Naam Re’ and he’s backed out from the project. While everybody is curious to know the exact reason behind this decision buzz is strong that Rana Sarkar, producer of the film, and his recent controversial comments on several issues have irked Srijit.
However, Rana claims Srijit had to leave the project because of date issues. He has said the shooting was supposed to start in the middle of last year but it got postponed. Camera is expected to start rolling again in June this year but amid his busy schedule juggling between the Mumbai and Kolkata projects Srijit couldn’t give time. Now the producer is looking for a new director for the film. Speculation is rife that it might be a filmmaker outside Kolkata since the script of ‘Lawho Gouranger Naam Re’ has already been written by Srijit Mukherji.
Recently Rana Sarkar revealed the first look of Priyanka Sarkar as Noti Binodini’s on stage Sri Chaitanya avatar and it has received a mixed response so far. For the unversed, Rukmini Maitra is also playing Noti Binodini in Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s biopic on the theatre icon and the shooting is already underway.
However, the producer still can’t confirm how long it will take to complete the shoot and when ‘Lawho Gouranger Naam Re’ will be released.
