Sweeping victory in 2019 Lok Sabha elections

Nusrat faced the same criticism as his friend Mimi Chakraborty when she was announced as a TMC candidate. Back then the pretty actress insisted she is unfazed by the trolling and focused on working towards the welfare of the people. "During the film promotions, it is our job to reach out to the people. As a political leader, I will have to ensure their welfare as well," she said. And now all her hard work has paid off as Nusrat defeated her nearest rival BJP's Sayantan Ghosh by 350369 votes. It was a successful political debut for the actress who is well known for his razor-sharp tongue.

Nusrat couldn’t take oath as MP on June 17 and 18

Because of her marriage scheduled around this time in Turkey, Newly elected MP Nusrat was unable to attend the oath-taking ceremony in the parliament. Her friend Mimi also missed the event as she was in Turkey too attending Nusrat’s wedding. Both the newly turned politicians took the oath on June 25 once Nusrat returned India after tying the knot with Nikhil Jain.

The controversial case

Nusrat was dragged into the controversy due to her ties with Kader Khan, the prime accused in the 2012 Park Street gang-rape case. However, the Bengali actor’s name never featured in the charge sheet. The police didn’t even question her regarding the matter even though Nusrat reportedly knew Kader closely. Speculation was rife that the two were engaged and were planning to get married sometime in 2012.

Marriage with Nikhil Jain

It was a cosy family affair with friends and families of Nusrat Jahan and Nikhil Jain attending the wedding in the picturesque town of Bodrum in Turkey. However, a large number of Bengali film personalities and political leaders are expected to attend the reception in Kolkata. The marriage ceremony took place on June 19 at Six Senses Kaplankaya, a beachfront resort near the town of Bodrum. However, the actress turned newly elected MP was set to marry in December, but had to prepone the date on the family’s insistence. The date and the venue were finally decided ahead of the Lok Sabha elections this year.

How Nikhil and Nusrat’s love story started

Nikhil Jain is a Kolkata-based businessman. Nusrat only formally met Nikhil during Durga Puja last year, but they fall for each other instantly. Soon they were in a relationship and 6-7 months down the line cleared their mind to tie the knot. A student of MP Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School, Nikhil has studied management at the University of Warwick before working as a consultant in an UK-based multi-national company. He is currently based in Kolkata and was first introduced to Nusrat during a professional assignment. She was also signed on as the brand ambassador of the sari label that is owned by Nikhil.

Faced backlash for wearing saree and sindoor in parliament

Newly elected MP Nusrat Jahan Jain has once again faced some brutal trolls, this time also shockingly for her choice of clothes. This is not the first time, the TMC MP was criticized by netizens earlier when she visited the Parliament in western formals. And now, Jahan faces vicious trolls for wearing a saree even though she is a Muslim. Looks like keyboard warriors are left with no other excuse but to start the latest social media onslaught. Recently married to Kolkata-based businessman Nikhil Jain, the pretty actress grabbed the attention of social media users when she took her oath first time in the Lok Sabha dressed like any other newly-wed woman. She appeared in a saree, sindoor and choora (bangles) for the oath-taking ceremony. Trolls seem to have taken a step further now as they also took a dig at Jahan for her choice of a life-partner along with her outfit.
