Dev: Upcoming films of the Tollywood hunk you can’t afford to miss

Last year Dev’s two releases ‘Kabir’ and ‘Hoichoi Unlimited’, both directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay, received mixed reactions from the audience. While Kabir failed to live up to the expectations despite having a serious subject like terrorism Hoichoi Unlimited, released during Durga Puja, scored well at the box office. The multistarrer comedy caper thoroughly entertained the audience. However, this year the Tollywood superstar has some interesting films in hand. ‘Password’ and ‘Kidnap’ has already made his fans excited. Then there’s a challenging role in ‘Sanjhbati’. Beside these projects, he is producing two more films. Here we take a look at Dev’s upcoming films which promises to enthrall the audience.

2/7

Password

Dev is seen these days with a moustache and no doubt his new look has left fans wondering what this is for. Well, the Tollywood superstar’s new look is for his upcoming film, Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s ‘Password’ which also stars Parambrata Chatterjee, Paoli Dam, Rukmini Maitra and Adrit Roy in pivotal roles. In ‘Password’ Dev will essay the role of a daring cop in the cyber crime department. Directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee, the thriller revolves around the dark side of social networking. Internet can actually invade the privacy of anyone these days and can steal the life of anybody. ‘Password’ will deal with this much relevant idea. Bankrolled by Dev’s home production, it will release during this Puja.

3/7

Kidnap

Directed by Raja Chanda, it promises to be a nail-biting thriller. The film revolves around Dev, a popular DJ in Malaysia and Meghna, a Photo Journalist, who meet each other in a Pub without knowing what sinister awaits them. The pub is a perfect hideout for illegal activities that’s plunged the city. Meghna takes a photo when a deal was going on and she becomes the target instantly. When the goons attack Meghna Dev comes to her rescue. They fall for each other and love blossoms. However, Meghna gets kidnapped by the gang but how Dev defeats the entire team of kidnappers is the crux of this intense thriller. While Dev and Rukmini Maitra play Dev and Meghna respectively, the rest of the cast includes Sahidur Rahman, Chandan Sen, Sriparna Roy, Prantik Banerjee, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya and Ashim Roy Chowdhury in key roles.

4/7

Sanjhbati

Leena Gangopadhyay and Saibal Banerjee are all set for their next project, a multistarrer titled ‘Sanjhbati’. Produced by Atanu Roy Choudhury, the upcoming family drama sees Dev sharing screen space with Soumitra Chatterjee for the first time. The ensemble cast also includes Paoli Dam and Arpita Chatterjee as the female leads. This film also marks the first project under the banner of Bengal Talkies and will go on floors from May eyeing a Christmas release. Speaking about the film, the director duo has said ‘Sanjhbati’ sees relationship from a completely different angle. Dev will play the character of a suburban young man who comes to the city and meets a young girl played by Paoli in unusual circumstances.

5/7

Dhumketu

This film has been shelved for more than two years but there’s every possibility it will finally release this year. With Dev and Subhasree Ganguly as the protagonists, the upcoming movie is co-produced by Dev himself along with Rana Sarkar. A rumoured tussle between two producers allegedly pushed back the release dates on several occasions over the past few years. Also starring Chiranjeet Chakraborty as a grey character, ‘Dhumketu’ will introduce Tollywood heartthrob Dev in a never-seen-before avatar. The actor will be seen as an 82-year-old for this film.

6/7

Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri

Dev won’t be acting in this social satire. This Aniket Chattopadhyay directorial will be bankrolled by Dev’s home production. The fairytale drama features Saswata Chatterjee as the king of Bombagarh, Kharaj Mukherjee plays his minister and Arpita Chatterjee as queen Kushumkali. Based on Dakhinaranjan Majumdar's two famous stories ‘Hobu Chandra Raja’ and ‘Sarkarer Chhele’, the film has already started rolling and eyeing a Christmas release.

7/7

Padma Shri Subhasini Mistry

With the announcement of Subhasini Mistry biopic, Dev proved that as a producer he is not just eyeing commercial success, instead he is well aware of his social responsibilities. We already know Aniket Chattopadhyay will direct the upcoming biopic. The casting is yet to be finalised. For the unintended, Subhasini Mistry was only 23 when she lost her husband, not to any disease but unfortunately to poverty. With 4 children to look after, she literally toiled for almost 20 years as a housemaid, a manual labourer and even a vegetable-seller. Now at 70, Subhasini Mistry lives with great satisfaction as she sees the two-storied building, her only dream to make a hospital for the poor, all of these happened because she once didn’t had the money for proper medical treatment to save her husband.
