The life of our favourite celebrities might look like all glitzy and glamorous from outside but deep inside, their lives are as flawed as any of us. There are several celebrities who’ve been embroiled in controversies related to their drug or alcohol addictions which have also affected their career graphs over the years. The popular actor has always been vocal spreading awareness on the evil of drug addiction. He has joined hands with several NGOs for the social cause. In fact, Anindya has learned from his personal expereicne. Back in 2020 he wrote an emotional Facebook post. “There's a reason why I don't drink or do drugs and I'm not ashamed of admitting it. I still remember on this very day, exactly 12 years back, when I checked myself in to a rehab in Habra for the very last time. Probably my 30th attempt. Today I’m 12 years clean and sober from the bondage of drugs and alcohol. I’m not special. Certainly I’m not superhuman. My odds of recovery are not better than yours or anyone who’s battling addiction.....It’s a slow process, it’s one hell of a struggle and it hurts a lot of the time. It gets better, you deserve better and you’re worth more. For what it’s worth,” wrote Anindya.

The seasoned actor also had problems with alcohol consumption once, more specifically when he was going through a difficult time after his marriage with Priyanka Sarkar broke down. Back then several media reports claimed that he was even having problems during film shoot as well and reportedly because of his alcoholic nature the actor had lost quite a few projects. However, with time Rahul finally managed to come clean battling his alcohol addiction.

Bhaswar had to go through a difficult phase in 2019. “Major part of 2019 was extremely painful for me, personally. I used to go for shoot, work the whole day, pull pranks on the sets (it was my only source of oxygen) and when I came back home it was all but darkness and loneliness. I used to sit in a dark room, didn’t have the urge to do anything or talk to anyone. But I had my work, wouldn’t have survived without it. Once I thought of jumping off 14th floor,” the actor had once revealed. He even became alcoholic to escape depression. However, after 9 months he realized something has to change. “Consulted psychiatrist, said that I want to live again. I stood up once again leaving everything behind. I told myself we get to live once and I am not going to waste it,” he further shared.

Joy, the ex-boyfriend of actor-politician Sayantika Banerjee has also been alcoholic. Even in 2018, the brawl between the once ‘most-happening’ Tollywood couple Sayantika and Joy made made the headlines. Joy got arrested after allegedly harassing Sayantika and on the road. Later, in an interview, the Bengali actress opened up about their strained relationship accusing Joy of harassing her more than once. Later it was revealed that Joy, who’s also an actor, event had to go for rehab to come clean of alcohol addiction.

Senior actor Saibal Bhattacharya in 2022 attempted suicide at his Kolkata residence and he was completely drunk at that time. According to media reports, the actor also shared a video of himself in a hurt state on his Facebook account. He was found at his Kasba home in south Kolkata before being admitted to Chittaranjan Hospital. Saibal was suffering from depression and substance abuse. Many of his co-actors have often said that he became alcoholic while battling depression. Although after counseling and treatment he came clean.
