Birsa's 'Joyguru' to celebrate friendship

Raj Chakrabarty to produce Birsa Dasguptas Joyguru which celebrates friendship like that in Sholay
Birsa's 'Joyguru' to celebrate friendship
Tollywood seems to have got truly smitten by the Bollywood bug of directors turning producers.
First it was Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury who produced Aveek Mukhopadhyays Ekti Tarar Khonje. Next, its the turn of Shoojit Sircar to produce Aniruddhas Aparajita. Now, the buzz doing the rounds is that hit machine Raj Chakrabarty is producing Birsa Dasguptas second feature film titled Joyguru.

Despite repeated attempts, both Birsa and Raj refused to comment on their film.
However, industry sources say that the shooting of this film will begin in April. Says a source, The film is about two friends Joy and Guru who hail from a slum in the city. The two boys try to enter a shopping mall. Once, they are prevented from doing so, they create a ruckus and are then picked up by cops. Later on, these two boys try to loot this mall. The film can be described as a friendship story of two underdogs. Indraadip Das Gupta, who is scoring its music, has suggested Joyguru as the title.
Both Joy and Guru have their love interests too. Joy falls for Ghungur, a girl who comes to the slum to open a Hindi and Bengali cinema dance school for the dwellers. She works in Bengali movies as the next to the heroine dancer. Guru gets attracted by an elderly lady who comes to stay in the slum with a teenage boy. Apparently, shes a widow who earns her living working as a singer in a shady bar where her name is Bijli!
Though the slum element in the plot might prompt many to draw a comparison between Joyguru and Slumdog Millionaire, sources say that Birsas film is a complete original work. Somak Mukherjee, who shot Birsas 033, will be doing the cinematography of the movie as well. An SRFTI passout Ansuman Chakraborty who has written a lot of Birsas telefilms has penned this original story that is now being developed into a script.

Adds the source, The film is a mainstream project. Yet, it also dwelves into the anxiety of the poor against the rich. There are pockets of slums in every metro. Most often, slumdwellers realize that they live in a different city even while being a part of a bigger city.
As far as the casting goes, Birsa wants new faces. Joy and Guru are in their mid 20s. Meanwhile, the industry is quite pleasantly surprised that Raj is helping Birsa to mount a mainstream movie. Both of them belong to the same generation. Whats so good about the coming together of Birsa and Raj is that instead of competing, they are complementing each other, adds the source.
