Behind this woman is this man: Indira Dhar on marrying Sayan Ganguly
Filmmaker Indira Dhar has confirmed that she has tied the knot with musician Sayan Ganguly in an intimate and private ceremony held at home. Sharing details about their relationship, the director revealed that the wedding was a quiet affair attended only by close family members.
Speaking about her husband and his role in her life, Indira expressed heartfelt gratitude for Sayan's unwavering support during one of the most challenging phases of her journey. “People often say that behind every successful man is a woman. In my case, behind this woman is this man,” she said.
Reflecting on the past, Indira opened up about rebuilding her life after her previous marriage ended. She revealed that when she met Sayan nearly three years ago, she was navigating a difficult period while raising her son, Kabir. Sayan, who is also divorced, stood by her side and helped her find strength and stability.
The filmmaker also credited her son Kabir for playing a significant role in bringing the family together. According to Indira, Kabir developed a deep bond with Sayan over the past two years, and that connection became the foundation of their relationship.
While sharing the happy news, Indira requested fans and well-wishers to continue supporting their work. She also highlighted Sayan's accomplishments in the music industry, noting that he is involved in international collaborations and comes from a distinguished musical background. A graduate of the London School of Music, Sayan carries forward a rich artistic legacy, with his family having deep roots in the world of music.
On May 24, Indira posted on social media: Two people parting ways after having a home is the best thing if the marriage is not working than to have it any other way. Trust and patience are two very important aspects of a relationship.
For the past few years I survived gossips, bullies and end number of questions on my relationship. I believe it’s the part and parcel of my career but I request all of you to focus on my work. Snigdho and I parted ways amicably few years back but we are very good friends. We never discussed it in public and no one understood that we parted. The best is to part than to have other alternatives being in the marriage. Snigdho and myself, we are on the same page on this.
When I started dating Sayan I never opened up and neither did he. Kabir was and is our priority. Snigdho was the first one to know that I have moved on and he was happy. There are some irritating people and relatives especially, who kept on asking illogical and unethical questions to my parents. No working in films does not mean broken homes always! It happens in all spheres, don’t even ask me what stories I experienced in corporates. My home was broken long long ago. Some walk through a false marriage but me and Snigdho didn’t.
No one knows when I started dating Sayan. We did not say it to the world! Some bullied me for nothing some years back but then me and Sayan had a good laugh. He was present in all my film sets. All of them!! WE HAVE NO ISSUES AMONGST US. We all deserve peace and happiness. Now I am officially Mrs Ganguly and kabir has a happy home. (sic)
Describing themselves as "very private people," Indira said that she, Sayan, Kabir, and their family are looking forward to this new chapter together. “Both of us seek blessings and love from everyone as we embark on our journey as husband and wife,” said Indira who is back from the Cannes Film Festival after launching her next Hindi film featuring Rituparna Sengupta and Chhaya Kadam in the lead.
