Abhimanyu Mukherjee whose last two films ‘Noor Jahan’ and ‘Piya Re’ received mixed reviews is all geared up for his third release ‘Googly’. Like many others in the film fraternity, he also believes commercial cinema has suffered a jolt in Bengal in recent times. According to the talented director, to save mainstream cinema one has to follow the ‘middle path’.
“See, Noor Jahan and Piya Re were completely commercial films, but with Googly we are trying to cater both the mass and class.
For instance, you can see
Pavel, Soukarya Ghosal,
Sayantan Ghosal are trying their best to blend mainstream and non-mainstream films,” explains Abhimanyu.
Three more films ‘Sweater’, ‘Dwikhondito’ and ‘Kia And Cosmos’ are releasing this Friday as well. So, will there be a completion? A confident Abhimanyu quickly replies he is not tensed about any competition. “I don’t think too much about the competition. Almost every month we are seeing good films hitting theatres. Mukherjee Dar Bou, Nagarkirtan still running successfully. Frankly speaking, if you wait for an open window, then we won’t be able to release any film,” added the director who has few more films like ‘Hullor’, ‘teko’, ‘Flyover’ waiting for theatrical release.
