An allegorical tale, seen through the eyes of a woman, whose unnamed character is based on controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen and a cat named Baghini, whose character is based upon on Nasreen's cat Minu, Nirbashito has been one of the most feted Indian film of this year.

The film is a satirical and fictionalized take on Taslima's difficult trek through life. It is told through her "painful separation" from her pet cat when she was forced to leave Kolkata in November 2007 after a daylong mayhem on the city's streets demanding her ouster.
Churni Ganguly herself plays the character of Nasreen, and fits the role perfectly with her cropped hair look.
