Thiruvallur election results 2026: TVK’s Dr T Arunkumar wins

Thiruvallur has produced a decisive result, with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s Dr T Arunkumar securing victory in a closely watched three-cornered contest. With counting now complete (24/24 rounds), Arunkumar won 92,190 votes, defeating incumbent V G Raajendran of the DMK by a margin of 24,760 votes. Raajendran finished with 67,430 votes, while AIADMK’s B V Ramanaa came third with 56,562 votes.

The result marks a significant shift in the constituency, where the DMK had held firm in recent elections. Raajendran had entered the contest with confidence after winning comfortably in 2021 with 1,07,709 votes and a 50.3% vote share, defeating Ramanaa by 22,701 votes. His first victory in 2016 had been narrower, making this defeat a notable reversal.

Arunkumar’s campaign appears to have capitalised on a changing voter base, particularly among urban professionals and younger voters in the constituency’s expanding peri-urban belt. His entry added a fresh dynamic to what was initially seen as a rematch between the DMK and AIADMK.

The seat recorded a sharp rise in voter engagement, with turnout reaching approximately 89.49%, significantly higher than the 77.94% seen in 2021.
