Karnataka election 2023: BJP releases third list of 10 candidates, fields Mahesh Tenginakai from Hubli-Dharwad Central held by Jagadish Shettar
Karnataka Election News: The BJP on Monday released its third list of 10 candidates for the Karnataka assembly polls and fielded its state general secretary Mahesh Tenginkai from Hubli-Dharwad Central, a seat held by veteran Jagadish Shettar who has joined the Congress after being denied ticket by the ruling party. A day after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party, former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar joined the Congress party in the presence of senior party leaders - Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar and Leader of Opposition in Karnataka state assembly Siddaramaiah. After resigning from the post of MLA and from the BJP's principal membership on Sunday, Jagadish Shettar said that he will discuss his next move with the activists. He took to Twitter and said, "Fed up with the political events of the past few days, I have resigned from my MLA seat and will discuss my next move with the activists. The Karnataka assembly elections will be held in a single phase on May 10, with the counting of votes scheduled on May 13. Stay with TOI for latest updates.

BJP targets Congress over its quota stand in Karnataka
Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday accused the Congress and the JD(S) of joining hands by promising to reverse the Karnataka government order to scrap the four per cent quota for Muslims to deny benefits given to Vokkaligas, Lingayats as well as SCs and STs. Describing the Janata Dal (Secular) as the B-team of the Congress, he said on Twitter that the BJP will stand strongly with these communities and will make sure it is with them for their progress. He used the hashtag "anti-Hindu Congress" to target the opposition party. While Karnataka Congress leaders want to reverse reservation, Rahul Gandhi "dropped" into Karnataka and said he wants to breach the Supreme Court limit on reservations, the BJP MP from the state tweeted. "So the Congress politics of lies and promise and scoot politics continues. That is why voters chose BJP bcoz we deliver what we promise," he said.

Karnataka Minister declares assets worth Rs 1,609 cr
Considered to be one of the richest politicians in the country, Karnataka Minister N Nagaraju (MTB) has declared total assets worth Rs 1,609 crore, while filing the nomination for May 10 Assembly polls in the state. He filed the papers on Monday as the ruling BJP's candidate from the Hoskote Assembly segment, on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

Cash arrived in helicopter, alleges Karnataka Cong leader
Senior Congress leader Vinay Kumar Sorake on Monday alleged that a bag containing huge amount of cash has arrived in a helicopter in which Tamil Nadu BJP President and state BJP election in-charge Annamalai landed in Udupi. Sorake, the Congress candidate from Kaup constituency said the party has informed the election officials about the matter.

senior party leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar joined Congress on Monday, a day after he snapped ties with the saffron party. He was welcomed by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC General Secretary B.C. Venugopal at the COngress headquarters. With the joining of Shettar, the task given by Rahul Gandhi to win more than 150 seats in Karnataka is appearing closer, Kharge stated. "I welcome him wholeheartedly to the party," he added. Though he hailed from Jan Sangh and RSS, Shettar has never done wrong. He had worked in the positions of DCM, Speaker and CM. No controversy has courted him, Kharge stated. "I have spent 38 years in the legislature. When we were in power Shettar used to be in Opposition and vice-versa. There was no situation of confrontation ever between us," he further said.
