Kancheepuram election results 2026: TVK’s R.V. Ranjithkumar wins Kancheepuram by 15,488 votes, defeats AIADMK and DMK
In Kancheepuram, R.V. Ranjithkumar of TVK secured a clear victory, polling 91,350 votes. He defeated AIADMK’s V. Somasundaram by a margin of 15,488 votes. DMK’s Nithya Sugumar finished third with 69,344 votes, as the constituency delivered a decisive mandate in favour of TVK.
The Kancheepuram constituency witnessed a high-profile showdown with the DMK fielding Nithya Sugumar, a strategic choice aimed at consolidating the urban and weaver-community vote. She faced a veteran challenge from V Somasundaram of the AIADMK, a former minister who sought to regain his stronghold. The race was further complicated by the entry of R V Ranjithkumar representing the TVK, who successfully tapped into the constituency's massive youth demographic and first-time voters.
The 2021 election saw C V M P Ezhilarasan (DMK) retain the seat with 1,02,712 votes (45% vote share), defeating P Magesh Kumar (PMK), who polled 91,117 votes. The victory margin was 11,595 votes. In the 2016 election, the seat was won by Ezhilarasan (DMK), who polled 90,533 votes, defeating the AIADMK’s T Mythili by 7,548 votes.
The voter turnout this year was 87.08%, a record high for the "Silk City," surpassing the 78.16% recorded in the 2021 elections.
