CHENNAI: The
Vellore
district police on Wednesday filed an
FIR
against
DMK Lok Sabha candidate Kathir Anand and party functionaries Poonjolay Srinivasan and Damodaran based on an income tax department report on the seizure unaccounted money.
"Cases have been registered under IPC sections 171 (E) and 171 (B) and Section 125 (A) of the RPI Act against the three men. While 171(E) is against bribery, 171 (B) is against people who try to influence voters by giving money to them and 125 (A) deals with penalty for giving wrong information in the affidavit enclosed with the nomination papers," said a senior election official.
While Rs 10 lakh was seized from Anand's residence in Katpadi in the last week of March, Rs 11.53 crore was seized from Srinivasan's cement godown and residence on April 1. Anand is the son of DMK treasurer S Duraimurugan.
"Filing of the FIR was delayed as we had to get the approval of the local magistrate. We received the permission a few hours ago," said the official.
The Election Commission is likely to take an action on the basis of the FIR.
