Lok Sabha polls: From ‘diamonds’ to ‘lucky draws’, ECI leaving no stone unturned to ensure you vote
BHOPAL: From ensuring that voter slips are being distributed to maximum number of voters to undertaking several activities for voters awareness, even a lucky draw at Bhopal constituency—electoral officers are taking all measures to ensure increase in voters turnout in the remaining two phases of polls in the state.
On Friday ECI in a statement had said, ‘Election Commission of India has doubled up its voter participation interventions to overcome the small drop in turnout in the first two phases of Lok Sabha polls.
The turnout so far has been 66.14% in phase 1 and 66.71% in phase 2’, state level officials have also been directed to take measures and interventions for better polling.
There are a total of 1.77 crore voters in the 9 constituencies of state where election is going to be held in the third phase of polls and of these more than 1.68 crore voters have been provided with the voters slips by the electoral officers, said sources. In several constituencies like Bhopal, the BLOs have not only been asked to distribute the voters slips door to door but to also take selfies while doing so, this in an attempt to ensure that the slips are distributed, said sources.
As far as heat wave impact is considered, ECI in a statement on Friday had already said, ‘ECI already held meetings with top IMD experts, health and disaster management agencies to consider the impact of heatwave on the election process, especially voters’ turnout during phase 3. As per the empirical evidence provided by IMD, there is no major concern with regard to heat wave for phase 3 of the General Elections scheduled on May, 7, 2024.’.
