“Hamari pyaas sadiyon ki hai,” says the cab driver without preamble.
I had just wrapped up my work which had taken me to a town near the Bihar-Nepal border and was now heading to Champaran to meet a college friend. I had thought the cab driver was sorted – he drove reasonably, didn’t talk non-stop – but this sudden comment brought me up short. What could he possibly mean? Why this ‘sadiyon ki pyaas’, this eternal thirst?
