BHOPAL: BJP veteran and former chief minister Babulal Gaur took a dig at the Congress leader
Digvijaya Singh's Hindu identity saying Digvijaya is hopping temples during elections, he must announce his support to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya if he is a 'staunch Hindu'.
"Digvijaya visited five temples and a shrine a day before launching his poll campaign in Bhopal. He also announced that he is a true and a staunch Hindu but, his love for temples emerges only during elections.
If he is Hindu then he must announce his support to build Ram temple in Ayodhya", Gaur told TOI, reacting on the Congress stalwart's claim.
Gaur, who is considered a close friend and admirer of Digvijaya Singh, also attacked the Congress party for colouring its campaign to saffron. He said not only Digvijaya claimed himself as Hindu but his ardent supporter and Congress minister from minority community Arif Aqueel also certified him as a true Hindu.
"I also doubt Congress minister Arif Aqueel's saying Digvijaya Singh a true Hindu. Who is he to certify Digvijaya. How much he know about Hindu religion. Is he a religious head. Unless Shankaracharya Swaroopanand or Adi Shankaracharya do not confirm Digvijaya as Hindu and ensure that he would come forward to construct Ram temple in Ayodhya, we will not agree to his claim", said the veteran leader.
Gaur's remark comes a day after Digvijaya Singh visited religious temples and sought blessings from saints such as Jain seer Acharya Vidyasagar in Jabalpur and Shankaracharya Swaroopanand in Narsinghpur on Tuesday. Digvijaya also met Mahant Chandrama Das Tyagi at Gufa Mandir in Bhopal on Wednesday. The Congress leader while speaking to press had also claimed himself a `staunch believer' of Hinduism asking why the RSS treated him as an enemy if it espouses the cause of Hindus.
BJP leader Gaur however, attacked Congress leaders saying only a true Hindu will support to build Ram temple in Ayodhya but, majority of Congress leaders who are visiting temples to claim they are Hindu, are doing so when elections are approaching. Gaur was also joined by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who said that Congress leaders are visiting temples when there are elections in the country.
"Congress leaders' temple run is seen only during elections. The party never supported construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and now all the leaders claiming themselves as staunch Hindu, appealing the Hindus to vote for them", said Chouhan.
