No rooms for tourists from polling areas: Deputy commissioner

SHIVAMOGGA: Tourists from constituencies where polling is scheduled on April 18 and April 23 won’t be allowed to stay in resorts,

homestays and hotels

of

Shivamogga district

, as per an order issued by

deputy commissioner KA Dayananda

on Monday.

In the two-page order, Dayananda directed all

tour operators and owners of resorts

, homestays and lodges to verify the voter ID card and address proof of all tourists who arrive on those two days. Tourists from constituencies which go to the polls on those two days won’t be provided accommodation.

Dayananda said all tour operators have been directed not to reserve rooms for visitors from those areas. “All voters must exercise their franchise to strengthen democracy. Keeping this in mind, I’ve issued such an order,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DC suspended three election staff at Khavasapura checkpost for sleeping on the job on Sunday night.

He said these persons found sleeping instead of checking vehicles. They’ve been suspended pending departmental inquiry for dereliction of duty.
