Gurugram independent candidate alleges bogus voting
CHANDIGARH: Anjan Deveshwar, an
In his twitter handle @AnjanDeveshwar, he has written, “How will the ECI tackle if someone else votes using ID card of a real voter? It was done at my booth. We should deal with it strictly and ideally, we should have CCTV monitored booths.”
In another tweet, he wrote, “The very purpose of election is defeated. #bogusvoting happened in Gurugram. Please initiate action. Someone else was voting on behalf of real voters. How can we expect a government elected by malpractices to tackle corruption? @PMOIndia.”
Anjan also said that if no action is taken on the matter, he would approach the court and would like to get his money back that he had spent on campaigning. He said, “The same day, I tweeted to Election Commission to take note of the matter. I had even sent messages to the election observer about the same.”
Talking to TOI, Anjan said, “When I went to cast my vote at the polling booth, there were only BJP polling agents present there. They were not aware that I was an independent candidate. I saw an Aadhaar card lying there and they were discussing with some other person about how they could not cast his vote as his name was not on the polling list, but were able to do it for the rest two. The polling agents present there used voting slips of other people to cast their votes, which can be verified by the signatures or web camera.”
Taking note of the matter, the CEO Haryana has directed Gurugram district election officer-cum-deputy commissioner (DC) Amit Khatri to look into the matter.
Khatri said, “We scrutinized the complaint on Monday, but found no substance in it.” TOI also tried to reach Manmeet Nanda, election observer, but she was not available for comments.
