NRI groups in Canada, Australia campaign for NaMo
AHMEDABAD: Campaigning might still not be in full swing in
After organizing ‘Chai pe charcha’ at Scarborough, large number of Indo-Canadians organized a car rally in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at Brampton, Ontario.
The car rally that was organized by ‘NRI4NaMo’ team received overwhelming support despite low temperatures and heavy rains.
"We had promoted the event on social media channels. The registrations were opened three days in advance and we had 100% participation from all the Indo-Canadian community members," said Nareshkumar Chavda, one of the organizers, having his roots in Surendranagar district of Gujarat.
The rally that started at Ram Madhav temple on Dixie Road witnessed a line-up of cars which were decorated with ‘NRI4NaMo’ Canada banners, posters, Indian and Canadian flags while the air was filled with slogans of ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘
"Over 130 cars and almost 300 community members participated in the rally that continued for almost 40 minutes before we reached our final destination –
"When we reached the temple, 100 more community members were waiting inside the campus. As the turnout was higher than expected, entire temple was full of Modi and BJP supporters," said Chavda, adding that the initiative was taken to motivate Indian voters to vote in favour of Modi and BJP.
The Overseas Friends of BJP (OFBJP) Australia too organized a car rally ‘Drive 4 development’ at Melbourne’s Tarneit station car park on Saturday. Wearing t-shirts with Modi and BJP symbol, the riders shouted slogans ‘Phir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar’, ‘Kaho Dilse Modi Phir Se’ during the car rally that was promoted as ‘NRI4NaMo’ event.
