CEO takes custody of 100kg of seized heroin
The chief electoral officer (CEO) of Gujarat, S Murli Krishna, took into his custody 100kg of heroin, worth Rs 509 crore, leaving anti-terrorist squad (ATS) officials astounded. According to ATS officials, the explanation given to them was that the contraband had been seized after the dates for the general election were announced.
According to Gujarat ATS officials, they arrested nine Iranian nationals, including one Ayub Baloch, the alleged mastermind. The officials said the dhow had first left Iran and 100kg heroin was then loaded on to it.
The officials said that on the night of March 27, the Gujarat ATS which already had a tip-off, intercepted a signal and tracked the dhow down. The officials said that the crew members tried to set the dhow ablaze but Gujarat ATS officials and ICG officials managed to contraband and also save the lives of the Iranian nationals on board. About the Gujarat CEO taking custody of the heroin, ATS official had no answer. "We need it to check its quality and for further investigation," a senior ATS official said. The Times of India tried to contact CEO S Murali Krishna but he did not respond to repeated attempts to reach him.
