preventive arrests

so far, said Rajkot city police commissioner Manoj Agrawal on Monday.


“While eight persons were externed, 40 anti-social elements were sent to jail under

PASA

. A total of 3,323 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor and 5,910 litres of country-made liquor was seized. Ten firearms and 13 cartridges were also seized. We also seized brown sugar worth Rs 22 lakh in the city,” said Agrawal, addressing a press conference held at the commissioner’s office in Rajkot.

“In order to maintain law and order on the day of the polling, we have deployed 5,000 jawans from para-military force, state reserve police, city police and home guard,” said Agrawal.

Agrawal said there would be a complete enforcement of code of conduct on Tuesday and any complaint of violation of the code of conduct would be dealt with a stern action. No voter would be allowed to take cellphone in the polling booth, he said.

Meanwhile, in another press conference addressed by Rajkot rural superintendent of police Balram Meena at his office in Rajkot, Meena said that so far, Rajkot rural police had detained 10,864 people under preventive arrests. “We have sent 11 anti-social elements under PASA. A total of 30 anti-social elements were externed,” he said.
