Delhi cops chalk out plan for poll readiness
NEW DELHI: Barely a week before the constituencies of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh go in for the
Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik has directed senior officers of the eastern range to increase anti-terror measures in their areas and give special focus to security of rallies of all political parties.
The meeting, which took place on Sunday, discussed the measures being taken to control trafficking of illicit liquor and fire arms between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The cops have also decided to clamp down on musclemen that are hired to disrupt the electioneering process.
The police teams have been asked to prepare a list of such suspects and monitor their activities. Police officers said that the musclemen found involved in illegal activities will be detained and booked.
Two constituencies — Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad — will be going for polls under the first phase on April 11, and Delhi Police will be increasing its strengths on border pickets along these two areas 48-hours before they go in for polling.
Officers said that the plans have been discussed with their counterparts in the Uttar Pradesh Police, and joint border checking and patrolling have already begun. Information is also being shared on about street criminals and a clamp down has been initiated against them.
The police officers have also been directed to go around in plainclothes in the area to monitor the activities of known bad characters as well. Apart from the teams of the three districts of the eastern range of Delhi Police, teams of the Special Cell and Crime Branch have also been roped in to ensure the polling goes peacefully.
