Lok Sabha elections: ‘In 5 years, BJP pushed Chandigarh back by decade’
CHANDIGARH: Former Union minister and Congress candidate
Bansal, who was addressing party workers at Congress Bhawan in Sector 35, also slammed the BJP government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. He said BJP leaders, especially city BJP president Sanjay Tandon, were responsible for the poor state of law and order. He alleged that Tandon used to hold meetings of UT officials at his residence, but was never able to find a solution for the prevailing.
Bansal claimed that BJP cannot match the developmental works carried out in Chandigarh during the Congress regime.
Once again targeting MP Kirron Kher over the Metro project, he said that during his tenure the work on metro project was started and even a survey was conducted. But Kher and BJP leaders at the centre dumped the project, giving a major setback to the city, he added.
He slammed the BJP leaders for the poor sanitation rankings too. Under the BJP-ruled municipal corporation, the city slipped from 3rd to 20th position in the recently released Swachhta rankings, said Bansal.
The central election committee of the Congress on April 2 had cleared Bansal’s name as the party candidate from Chandigarh
There were three names before the committee for finalising the candidate from Chandigarh seat. Besides Bansal, senior Congress leader Manish Tewari and Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Punjab minister Navjot Sidhu, were also in the fray for the ticket.
The central leadership of the Congress conducted two surveys in the city to zero in on the candidates and reports on both the studies was sent to the election committee.
