PATNA: After JD(U), ally RJD is in a spot after sting op videos emerged of two of its candidates, Mundrika Singh Yadav (Jehanabad) and Subedar Das (Makhdumpur) allegedly taking bribes. Unlike JD(U) that immediately asked state excise and prohibition minister Awadhesh Kushwaha, caught taking a bribe in the first sting-op to resign, RJD did not take action against its candidates.
JD(U) also cancelled Kushwaha's nomination for Pipra constituency
RJD national spokesman Manoj Jha said the party would act only when the candidates are found guilty in the probe. "We cannot take action as there is the possibility of fabrication and tampering with the footage," he said. Jha alleged a conspiracy. "We know of many incidents of such fabrication to corner a candidate and party. So, any action will be taken only after the probe is over," he said.
Justifying the party's stand, Jha said recently a BJP neta had fabricated a tweet of RJD chief Lalu Prasad. "We've brought the matter to the EC's knowledge," he said.
RJD sources claimed an associate of JD(U) candidate in Ghosi, Krishna Nandan Verma, was also accused in the sting-op with RJD's nominees. "JD(U) took no action against the nominee but acted against the minister in a hurry as it feared embarrassment if PM Modi raked up the issue at his rallies."
