LUCKNOW: The ongoing enforcement drive to curb manufacture, sale and distribution of illicit liquor during the assembly polls saw the excise department register 449 cases for the recovery of 25,797 litres of illicit liquor and 65,520kg lahan from various parts of the state on Thursday. Police arrested 71 accused in connection with these cases.
In Basti, joint teams of the excise and police departments recovered 454 litres of raw alcohol and registered 10 cases.
From Pratapgarh, teams seized 490 litres of illicit liquor and destroyed 1,300kg lahan. Nine cases were registered. The teams recovered 442 litre of raw alcohol from
Jhansi and registered five cases. In Bahraich, 436 litre of raw alcohol was recovered and seven cases were filed. During raids in
Gorakhpur, teams found 452 litres of raw alcohol and destroyed 30,000kg lahan. Similarly, 1785 litres of illicit liquor were seized from Prayagraj division, 3,390kg lahan was destroyed and 43 cases were lodged. In Lucknow, 2,453litre illicit liquor was recovered, 8,795kg lahan was destroyed and 85 cases were filed.
In Meerut, 2,140 litre raw alcohol was recovered and 25 cases were registered. From Moradabad, 1,788 litre raw alcohol was recovered and 33 cases registered.
