CM Pinarayi declares assets worth over Rs 1 crore ahead of Kerala polls
T’PURAM/KANNUR :After filing his nomination papers as the LDF candidate from Dharmadom assembly constituency on Thursday, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared movable assets worth Rs 45,35,620 and immovable assets valued at Rs 56,02,000 in the affidavit filed before the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, his wife Kamala Thayikandiyil has reported movable assets at Rs 60,58,442 and immovable assets worth Rs 36,00,000.
The affidavit shows that Vijayan has one set of pending criminal proceedings, including a criminal appeal before the Supreme Court linked to a CBI case — the SNC Lavalin case — in which a discharge order was earlier upheld by the Kerala high court. Only the case number has been mentioned in the affidavit. Multiple writ petitions are also pending before the high court, while adjudication proceedings initiated in a related matter have been stayed. He has declared no convictions.
In terms of income, Vijayan’s earnings have risen by about 85%, from Rs 2,87,860 in 2020-21 to Rs 5,33,060 in 2024-25. In contrast, his wife Kamala’s income shows a sharper increase — from Rs 16,400 in 2020-21 to Rs 5,77,970 in 2024-25, an increase of over 3,400%.
The chief minister has also declared cash in hand of Rs 10,000, while his wife holds Rs 5,000. Bank deposits and savings indicate a mix of accounts in public sector banks and cooperative institutions, with Vijayan holding over Rs 5.13 lakh in an SBI account and additional smaller deposits in cooperative banks. His wife, meanwhile, has multiple deposits across SBI and cooperative banks, including fixed deposits running into several lakhs.
A significant portion of Vijayan’s assets includes Rs 37.11 lakh parked in a treasury account, alongside smaller cooperative bank deposits. His investment portfolio remains modest, comprising shares in Malayalam Communication Ltd and small holdings in cooperative institutions.
His wife’s investment profile is more substantial, with shares in Malayalam Communication Ltd (2,000 shares) and Kannur International Airport Ltd (2,000 shares), in addition to multiple fixed deposits across cooperative banks and treasury instruments.
Meanwhile, Vijayan submitted his nomination papers before district registrar Sachin Krishnan at 11am. Incidentally, Vijayan was the first candidate to file nomination from Kannur district for the upcoming polls.
